Best Plugin for backing up WordPress
Posted by Dan Israel on Mar 25, 2012 in Information & Technology
A set of files and a database. How hard can that be?We’ll after the plug-in I was using to backup content on several WordPress sites fell dormant, I decided to find a new one to cover me on this simple…but crucial task. There are a ton of plugins available, but many are no longer under development, and all but a few simply – don’t work! They return errors or are missing critical features like “scheduling.”Enter
backWPup!This plug does exactly what you need in a WordPress utility. Here are the main features:
- Create multiple jobs, with varying schedules and options.
- Backup Database and/or File Content.
- Backup to local directory, email, FTP, DropBox, SugarSync, Google Storage, Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure, Rackspace Cloud.
- Database Table selection/exclusion.
- File/Directory selection/exclusion.
- Retention policies
- Scheduled Database Optimization
- Restore features.
- Various compression schemes.
Off the top of my head…I can’t think of much more I’d expect except full/incremental/differential selection. It also has a very clean, WordPress consistent and intuitive interface.Let me state for the record…I have no affiliation with the developer. I’m simply elated to finally find a solution after two days of trying to get other plugs to even work with my shared storage sites. Here are a couple of screenshots.
